Unputdownable
Following "The Founding", "The Dark Rose" and "The Princeling", this is the fourth book in the MORLAND DYNASTY series.

After many years of peace and prosperity, the reign of Charles I brings brutal civil strife to England.

With their century-long history of fighting for what they consider a just cause, the Morland family is drawn inevitably into the bloody fighting. While the oldest son Ralph brings home a Puritan wife, thus creating a schism between himself and his father, his younger brother Kit joins the Royalist cavalry under Prince Rupert. Before leaving for the war, Kit marries his cousin Hero, thus making a lifelong enemy of Hero's brother Hamil. When the two cousins meet during the war, albeit fighting on the same side, the death of one seems inevitable.

There are so many more stories in the book concerning the various branches of the Morlands that it is impossible to go into more detail. For the first time, the author includes Colonial America in the story, telling of the desperate struggle of a young couple to survive in a harsh New World.

The characters are believable and the stories, which have been well researched, are full of rich historical detail. I simply could not stop reading until I reached the last page and then I rushed on to the next book. I have read the first six books in the series and have not yet been disappointed.

A fine story of how not to change others
An old woman encounters an eagle for the first time, and decides to change its unsightly appearance to suit her own ideas of what a bird should look like. The old woman gets her way; but the eagle is saddened by his new pigeon-like appearance, until a sympathetic comrade decides to help out. A fine story of how not to change others, The Old Woman And The Eagle is a very highly recommended picturebook story.

This book is great!
If you have listen to Joyce Meyer's tape series about eagles then you will love this book because this is where she got her information about the Eagle and the different "birds in the church." This book should be in EVERY Pastors library. A Pastor or teacher could use this book for an awesome study of the Scriptures where God likens us to the eagle. From the courtship to the nest this is an absolutely awesome book.

Very well done! The color photos were excellent adding a whole new dimension to that horrendous conflict. Jeffrey J. Ethell and Warren M. Bodie have done a great service to all who participated in the Pacific war.

A Pride of Eagles
Published in Hardcover by Covos-Day Books (September, 2001)
Author: Beryl Salt

The definitive history of the Rhodesian Air Force
The most complete single volume account of an air force I've seen. At roughly 1, 000 pages, A Pride of Eagles fully documents the complete history of this small, but very resourceful air force from their beginning in 1920, through the "liberation War" of the 1970s and formation of the Zimbabwean Air Force. The author began work on this volume in 1969, and was given full access. The results show that the years were put to good use. The book provides very detailed aircraft, squadron and personnel histories covering Rhodesia's involvement in World War II, and the myriad "bush wars" in which they fought. Although never large, the Air Force of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) fought in almost every significant air action in which the United Kingdom fought from 1920 through the early 1960s; and further regional conflicts after Rhodesia's Unilateral Declaration of Independence from the British Commonwealth. A Pride of Eagles fully documents the air force's role in the "liberation War" of the 1970s with details on both large and small actions, and how the air force evolved to the current Zimbabwean Air Force. The maps and photos are clear and plentiful. This book includes far too much to be covered in a brief review. A Pride of Eagles is a must for any World War II aviation enthusiast or those with an interest in Southern African history. The author - Beryl Salt, and Covos-Day publishers should be commended on this obvious labor of love.

Thoroughly enjoyable
Following "The Founding" and "The Dark Rose", this is the third book in the MORLAND DYNASTY series.

A few years have passed and Nanette, having suffered a tragic personal loss, once again returns to court where she witnesses the turbulent years of Elizabeth I.'s reign as the young Queen's confidante and lady-in-waiting.

Meanwhile, in order to increase the Morland family's wealth and influence through an advantageous marriage, John, heir to Morland Place, is sent by his domineering father to the wild Northern Border. In order to prove himself among the savage Northerners and to win the love of the woman he desires, John has to live through hardship and bloody battle.

At the same time, John's gentle sister Lettice is sent to the court of Mary, Queen of Scots. When she is ravished by and marries a ruthless Scottish nobleman, Lettice soon becomes embroiled in court intrigues. Having heard rumours about the mysterious deaths of her husband's first two wives and being unable to give her husband the desired heir, fear becomes her daily fare.

I found this powerful and beautifully written novel thoroughly enjoyable. The characters are believable and it becomes obvious that the author did much research on the subject. Currently, I am reading the sixth book in the series and I have not yet tired of the Morlands.

Best Hist-Fict. author I've read.
I must confess I haven't read her mysteries, but I can say that her Kirov Saga and Morland Dynasty series are the creme dela creme of all historical fiction. Right up there with H. Turtledove, master of alternate history. A masterpiece of historical events excellently captured aswell as the best characters in imagination.
